Other Energy Issues

The United States' energy demand is projected increase every year, at least through 2030.  America is striving to meet its growing energy demands by using all viable sources, including fossil fuels, renewables and alternative energy supplies.

This endeavor brings opportunities and challenges.  Many issues need to be addressed including ensuring access to steady, reliable energy sources; tne industry's economic impact on the nation; the development of sound regulations; and increased conservation and energy efficiency.  It is imperative that the industry, in coordination with citizens and policymakers work together to maintain America's position as a global leader.

Canadian oil sands are an example of the opportunities and the challenges presented with the development of an energy source.  This oil, however, is an abundant and stable supply from a friendly neighbor, and it will help drive America's economy and energy security.  There are potential obstacles, however, in acquiring this oil in a cost-effective manner, as well as environmental issues, many of which are being addressed by the industry.  The United States is working with Canada to resolve each of these issues through sounds policies, standards and regulations.

There are other challenges confronting our nation as we strive for economic and energy security, such as increased energy taxes, limits on domestic access and increased regulations.  We can still achieve our goals, however, if our policymakers take the time to fully understand the issues, and make sound, fact-based decisions. It is the goal of forums, such as ours, to help educate citizens, industry and policymakers alike so informed decisions are made in the best interest of all Americans.
